I’m enormously thankful for this article of Mr. Anderson’s. It is the last piece in a puzzle that I’ve been piecing together for a while now. His lacklustre understanding of scientific method and its consequences goes a long way to explain his Magnum Opus The Long Tail.

His disregard for scientific models and adoration of deriving spurious inferences from massive datasets explains to a large degree why his book is as unconvincing as it is and why it has so few ideas for potential practical applications.

The contrast is even more striking when you compare his book with John Hagel III’s and John Seely Brown’s The Only Sustainable Edge which is based on a conceptual model that is outlined in vigorous detail, supported by research data and has clear, immediate implications on strategy and planning.

Were this the old usenet, this would be the point when Mr. Anderson would be killfiled en masse by the sensible few on the net.
